International Power offers a variety of different programmes which operate over a two-year period. Development opportunities are provided through a variety of formats including formal classroom instruction, on-the-job coaching, shadowing, seminars, site visits and e-learning. We recognise that everyone has different learning styles and wherever possible we structure your learning to suit your style.
You will be appointed a mentor for the full two-year programme and you will enjoy the benefit of a programme sponsor. You will also be provided with a buddy to support integration within each team. There will be lots of opportunities to receive feedback and to provide feedback on your own development.
Examples of current International Power graduate programmes are:
Engineering programmes
We run two engineering programmes for graduates with a degree in engineering and who are interested in a career in power generation:
-
UK-Europe Operations and Engineering
The UK-Europe Operations and Engineering team’s activity covers all aspects of operating and maintaining power plants within the UK and Continental Europe.
This stream is aimed at those graduates who are motivated by a career in power generation and want to increase their technical knowledge and skills. Graduates in the UK-Europe Operations and Engineering stream rotate through several of our assets, including our pumped storage station in Wales, and other gas and coal fired stations. During their time in the stations they will have the opportunity to work across the operations, engineering and maintenance functions.

Our expectations
We expect to attract graduates who aim to achieve and contribute towards our growing business and who demonstrate a natural intellectual curiosity, commitment, drive and determination, as well as a willingness to engage in the International Power experience. If you are willing to bring your energy and enthusiasm to work with you, you will benefit. We expect you to honour the programme and learn as much as you can. Evidence of your growth and contribution is expected.
What you can expect
International Power respects the graduate process and recognises the unique skills and attributes of each and every individual. You will be known to all your colleagues and you can expect to be included as a key member of the team in which you are working. Responsibility and opportunity to participate in projects are provided to graduates where possible.
Although professional development and training are the cornerstones of employee development, employees are also encouraged to add to their learning in a non-working environment.
On successfully completing the graduate programme, we will discuss with our graduates possible opportunities within International Power. These opportunities will depend on business requirements at the time, and personal interests and aspirations. Our graduate programme sets you up for success and our continuous learning environment ensures that you continue to build your knowledge and skills.
